Parking Lot Podcasting at its finest…. it’s a good thing I don’t quit my day job! In this, the 5th episode, I wanted to discuss the Divinity of Jesus and how it is revealed through, both, sacred scripture and sacred tradition. I have personally had conversations with people who deny the divinity of Jesus so this topic is near and dear to my heart.

The secret, I think, is the Greek words eg-o’ i-mee (Strong’s 1473 & 1510) which is the divine name, given to Moses, by God in Exodus 3. This is the great “I AM” that the Jews knew referred to God himself and which Jesus evokes in the Gospels, which results in his getting the death penalty. Also, in true hacker style, I threw out another Greek word… pros-koo-neh’-o (strong 4532) which refers to the worship reserved only for God yet we see, in the scriptures, how Jesus was worshiped by men (the deciles as well as others) with pros-koo-neh’o and yet Jesus never said… wait… i’m no God. Instead this is a clear endorsement of his divinity.

You can check out my show notes at the following link: http://www.joemcclane.com/Catholic_Hack_No_5.pdf

I am also posting a copy of a conversation I have had with a Jehovah Witness this past December on this topic:
http://www.joemcclane.com/A_Conversation-with-a-JW.pdf

Just remember… eg-o’ i-mee is no breakfast waffle but the Devinne Name that Christ claimed for him self… John 8:24 ” That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, 12 you will die in your sins.”

There you have it… May God Bless you

The Catholic Hack! Episode No. 4 Infant Baptism

2007
06.18

Habemus Pravulus! – We Have a Baby!

Welcome Back to the 4th Episode of the Catholic Hack. In this show I wanted to announce the birth of my son, John-Paul, and to take this opportunity to discuss Infant Baptism. I was kind-a rushed for time on this one so please forgive me for blazing through the scripture references and not sounding as polished as I should. There are some good references I want to share with you on this topic:

1. A great site for looking up Greek words in the New Testament is http://wesley.nnu.edu/gnt/

2. Some Great materials for Infant Baptism are:
a. http://www.catholic.com/library/Infant_Baptism.asp

b. http://www.catholic.com/library/Early_Teachings_of_Infant_Baptism.asp

3. I also took a lot from the chapter on Baptism form the following book: http://www.amazon.com/This-Faith-Canon-Francis-Ripley/dp/0895556421

4. Here is another very good pamphlet on the subject of Infant Baptism: http://www.pjpiisoe.org/pamphlets/011Baptism-infant-baptism.pdf

5. And of course you can never go wrong with the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.kofc.org/publications/cis/catechism/index.cfm

I am also attaching my outline for the show which contains all the referenced versus as well as the Church Fathers that I read from in the show -The_Catholic_Hack-Episode_No_4_Infant_Baptism.pdf - (see also the first comment on this entry). When it comes down to it once we realize that Baptism removes our original sin, enters us into covenant relationship with God and is a free, one way, gift from God it’s not hard to see how it was intended for everyone with out exception to age. I believe this was the intent from the very beginning. Please continue to pray for my family and may God bless you.

The Catholic Hack Episode No 3 – Confession!

2007
06.06

Welcome back to the Catholic Hack! In this episode I hope to show you that God, from the very beginning, desired to give us the model of Confession that the Catholic Church now celebrates.

CCC: 1423 It is called the sacrament of conversion because it makes sacramentally present Jesus’ call to conversion, the first step in returning to the Father 5 from whom one has strayed by sin.

I believe this paragraph, from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, go right to the hear t of what I discuss in the podcast… we who separate ourselves from the Father are rejoined to him through confession of our sins. This is the same story told in St. Luke’s Gospel where Jesus tells us the parable of the Prodigal Son. The son separated himself from his father and was restored through his confession. The father, not only received him, in the confession, but then went on to restore him to sonship, to full dignity as a son of the Father.

This is the same model found in the third chapter Genesis when the Lord walks in the garden in the cool of the day. We see here how Eve has integrity and Adam does not… and we also see how God, in his love, receives them in confession, and then restores their dignity. Can you see it? Read the story of Cane and Able in the next chapter of Genesis and you will see this model again.

A good reference for general biblical references and Early Church Fathers would be:

http://www.earlychurchfathers.org/belief.php?id=19&PHPSESSID=c6ff22891de34ca569d58e09e9121de7

Make sure you read Leviticus Ch 4 & 5 as well to get an idea on the Old Testament Sin offering and how that compares to our Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Well I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as I did. God bless you and please pray for my wife and soon to be born son John-Paul.

The Catholic Hack… Episode No 2

2007
06.01

Today was a good day… I was able to post my second podcast this week. This podcast, in particular, was very important to me as the topic is so huge. The secret to unlocking the Gospel… now that is a big promises. Download my podcast and tell me what you think.

There are a few resources that I want to share with you as they relate to the topic of the show. The first is www.salvationhistory.com. This is an outstanding web site with a tremendous amount of resources available to everyone free of charge. One of which is an online study course, which I discuss in my show, which I want to point out. Check out : http://www.salvationhistory.com/online/intermediate/covlove.cfm.

This is a course on An Introduction to the Biblical Worldview and the second lesson, of this course is my focus for today. Take a look at this lesson, as well as all the others on this site, and let me know what you think. This is great material!

I want to also recommend “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” by Dr Scott Hahn. If you have ever struggled to piece the bible together in a fashion that makes sense then this is the book for you. This book helped me to see scripture and one, whole, complete, perfect book. Before this the Old Testament really made no sense to me at all and I viewed the OT as being completely separate from the NT. Well this is NOT the case. Read the book and you will know why.

I also owe you a link to the Jewish Targum that I quoted from in my show…. http://www.tulane.edu/~ntcs/pj/psjon.htm Just go to the link for Gen. 1 – 6.

Well I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. There was soooo much that I didn’t even mention that I really wanted to. I guess it will have to be the material for future shows. Well… please subscribe, leave comments, and tell your friends and family. May God bless you.
