Welcome back to the Catholic Hack,

In this episode I wanted to take on the New Testament Priesthood, the Priesthood of Jesus Christ, the Priesthood of the twelve Apostles. I was inspired by a Catholic Answers show, last week, on the Priesthood with Dr. Brant Pitre and Michael Barber (http://singinginthereign.blogspot.com). They did a fantastic job and it got my scriptural juices flowing.

I also read an article from Tim Staples on this topic that did a great job detailing the use of the Greek words for elder and for Priest and how they were used in the New Testament. As Tim says in the article If it Walks like a duck and talks like a duck… must be a duck. The same is said for the Priesthood because it looks, acts, feels, and operates as Priesthood so it is a Priesthood.

Thanks again for your listener-ship and support of this Podcast. Please send me more feedback and leave me a review on iTunes.

God Bless

Welcome back to the Catholic Hack! This episode is a round table discussion, with Kevin, Ira, and Art, from the mens prayer group of St. Anthony of Padua parish in The Woodlands TX, on the topic of Evolution.

As Ira points out, so clearly, we need to be careful not to fall for the lie of “either science or faith”. There is truth in nature and truth in our faith…. Truth is a person… its Jesus Christ and Truth can not contradict itself. Therefore, we need to dive deep and discover Truth.

We have nothing to fear from science, in fact, I have no doubt, that science can show that life is anything but arbitrary. Science has already discovered that the cell is vastly more complex and intelligent they they had ever imagined. This is a witness to the glory of God. Please check out the article links and show notes above because I have some really great material for your reading pleasure. Please also search the Catholic Answers podcast (calender) archive for previous shows on Evolution. There is one from July and a couple from a few months back that were fantastic. Dr. Berlinski (“On the Origins of Life” – Link above) did an hour on Catholic Answers and I highly recommend it… its worth searching for. http://www.catholic.com/radio/calendar.php

The bottom line? We need to question what we are being told about Darwinian evolution…. To many evils are being perpetrated and backed up by the excuse that we simply evolved by arbitrary chance. Not so! There is consequence to action and we can not allow ourselves a “get out of jail free card” on our sin nature.

If science can show life originated with/from an intelligent design…. with a purpose… and not arbitrary… then there must be an objective morality… a right and wrong… and therefore there is consequence to action. People simply do not want to accept that they have to account for the choices they have made.

So the argument is not about science at all… we have nothing to fear from good science… its about the two great lies.

I was privileged to spend a few hours, this past Saturday, with three great men from the St. Anthony Parish, in The Woodlands Texas, men’s prayer group. I first met Ira, Art, & Kevin at a men’s retreat this past spring (lent) and they have been inspiring me ever since. The Men’s group meets twice every month (the first and third Saturday) for prayer, intercession, discussion, and great fellowship. After listening to their stories I thought you might be blessed by their journey as well.

Thanks, once again, to Ira, Art, & Kevin for sharing with me your walk with Christ.

God Bless

Hello and Welcome to the Catholic Hack! With Joe McClane. I want to say thank you to all those who sent me feedback with prayers and condolences for my Grandma who passed recently. I truly appreciate the positive feedback.

In this weeks podcast I wanted to get back to the discussion on St. Peter and the Authority of the Church. Although, the likely progression should lead to infallibility, I didn’t want to have a full blown discussion on that just yet. I wanted to address a certain passage that I hear brought up all the time when it comes to talking about St. Peter as being our Pope. I wanted to dispel the Galatians 2 – Apostolic Butt Chewing myth! Did St. Paul put St. Peter in his place? Does this mean he can not be infallible? Does this mean he can not be the Prime Minister of Christ’s Church?

I think you will see that this passage does not mean, at all, that St. Peter is anything less that the earthly Sheppard of Christ’s Church (John 21). I even go so far as to say (my opinion of course) that it was St. Paul who learned something from this incident that he would go on to teach to the Christians in Rome only a few years later.

SHOW NOTE: When I read the verse, during the podcast, from Galatians Chapter 2:12, I kept saying “un-circumcised” however the verse actually says “circumcised” …. I can only imagine that my brain just didn’t want to function properly … but then again I’m just a hack….

Anyway… the bottom line here is that this verse does not do what critics would like it to do… to St. Peter anyway… and instead teaches us a valuable lesson. Our Freedom can become a stumbling block that can/will turn others away from Christ. We are called to draw people to Christ so we can not, according to Romans 14:15, allow our freedoms to get in the way of our mission to “Love”. St. Peter had to find a way to “Love” both the Gentile converts and the Jewish Christians who had not yet overcome the hurtle of the Jewish food (as well as other) laws. We are called to Charity and Love… read 1Cor. 13 and then apply that to this situation in Gal. 2. Should St. Peter just pull out the sledge hammer and pound the “Judizers”? That would have turned them away from Christ not towards him. St. Peter may not have done a good job about riding the line but… the bottom line is he, as the Pope, can not love one and not the other. He was stuck between a “Rock” and a hard place.

God Bless

In the end all we have left is our love, everything else is burned away. Will we have anything left? Have we loved as we were commanded? Mary Lou Brown loved! She spent an entire life time loving in self-sacrifice. She preached the Gospel with out ever quoting a verse.

Grandma Brown, pray for us!

God Bless
