Behold The Man No. 16 Christ truly present in the Eucharist

2009
11.23

bth-logoToday, we talk about the Catholic Church’s doctrine of the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.  I’ve been taking a poll on the site and found that 91% do believe in this teaching but, I know there are many who do not.  So let’s dive into it!

If you want more on the topic of the priesthood of the twelve apostles check out the podcast I produced on the subject HERE.

The intro song was “Glory to Our God” by “The Glory Estate” from their new album “Fading into the Light”.  Great band and great music…. pick up your copy HERE.

Behold The Man No. 15 St. Peter

2009
11.02

bth-logoToday, we tackle two tough questions about what the Catholic Church teaches on St. Peter…

1) IF St. Peter was given the Keys to the kingdom then WHY was he still clueless as to what Jesus was teaching about his Kingdom? Why squabble over an earthly Kingdom when Jesus was speaking of a Heavenly one? Clearly St. Peter was nothing special at all… he not first among the apostles, right?

and

2) IF St. Peter was so special, the first Pope, then how is it that Paul was able to “call him out” in Galatians 2:11?

Here are some additional resources on the subject:

Listen to my Catholic Hack! podcast no. 49 “What the Rock is cooking”

Listen to my Catholic Hack! podcast no. 8 “Authority of the Church in St. Peter”

Listen to my Catholic Hack! podcast no 10 “Apostolic Butt Chewing”

Bringing us into today’s show was the song “Make Me Holy” by Robert Galea. Check out his website here.

TCH No. 85 Salvation History

Welcome Back!

Today we finish up chapter 1 of “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” by Dr. Scott Hahn.  Thanks to St. Anthony Messenger Press we are treated to 10 minutes from the audio book!  Just how important is “covenant” in salvation history? “Covenant is what God does because covenant is WHO God is!” I also want to show just how important a role typology will play on salvation history by going showing you at least one example of how Christ fulfills all of the previous covenants in scripture.

Pick up your copy of the Book HERE and the audio book HERE and prepare yourself for the ride!

Audio content from “A Father Who Keeps His Promises,God’s Covenant Love In Scripture, copyright 1998 by Scott Hahn, Ph.D. Used with permission of St. Anthony Messenger Press, 28 W. Liberty St., Cincinnati, OH 45202. To order copies call 1-800-488-0488 or visit www.messengeraudio.com.

Few Love the Cross of Jesus

2009
10.20

In my “side” project of narrating “The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas a Kempis I have been blown away by the boldness of this classic work.  It has cut right to my heart and convinced me that I am even less deserving of consolations that I originally puffed myself up to!

Here is a sampling (audio player above) of what I’m talking about; taken from chapter 11 of the second book “Few Love the Cross of Jesus”:

“JESUS has always many who love His heavenly kingdom, but few who bear His cross. He has many who desire consolation, but few who care for trial. He finds many to share His table, but few to take part in His fasting. All desire to be happy with Him; few wish to suffer anything for Him.  Many follow Him to the breaking of bread, but few to the drinking of the chalice of His passion.  Many revere His miracles; few approach the shame of the Cross. Many love Him as long as they encounter no hardship; many praise and bless Him as long as they receive some comfort from Him. But if Jesus hides Himself and leaves them for a while, they fall either into complaints or into deep dejection.

Read this book if you have not already done do!  Its powerful!

God Bless You

Welcome back to the Catholic Hack,

In this episode I wanted to take on the New Testament Priesthood, the Priesthood of Jesus Christ, the Priesthood of the twelve Apostles. I was inspired by a Catholic Answers show, last week, on the Priesthood with Dr. Brant Pitre and Michael Barber (http://singinginthereign.blogspot.com). They did a fantastic job and it got my scriptural juices flowing.

I also read an article from Tim Staples on this topic that did a great job detailing the use of the Greek words for elder and for Priest and how they were used in the New Testament. As Tim says in the article If it Walks like a duck and talks like a duck… must be a duck. The same is said for the Priesthood because it looks, acts, feels, and operates as Priesthood so it is a Priesthood.

Thanks again for your listener-ship and support of this Podcast. Please send me more feedback and leave me a review on iTunes.

God Bless
Joe M
