This was the second talk I gave at the Amarillo Catholic Men’s Conference in October of 2013. The first talk I gave recounted how God saved me from a lifetime of pornography addiction through the Catholic Church. In this talk we look to the heroic example of St. Ignatius of Antioch, the first century Bishop who “took the hill” for Christ and His Church!

I want to thank the men of the “Catholic Men’s Retreat” of Wyoming for inviting me to speak to them about one my favorite subjects… typology! In this series of 6 lectures we attempted to examine the question… why did Jesus have to suffer and die just to redeem us from our sin. If Jesus is God, then why not just will our redemption? To go through so much for us, the mocking, the stripes of the scourging, the crown of thorns, the out-pouring of his blood, being cut off from his people and nailed to a tree… there must have been a very good reason. In the seeking the answer to this question we endeavor to become the “Man in the Garden!”
Why? Why did God have to take on flesh and dwell among us? Why did he have to suffer and die in order to redeem us? Answer, LOVE, a complete gift of self… it’s what the first Adam failed to do, and the last Adam did to perfection! Much of this talk is based upon Dr. Scott Hahn’s work in “First Comes Love”, and “A Father Who Keeps His Promises”. I would encourage you to read both of those books for MUCH more detail. The video & audio quality is not the best however, due to “user error”… I failed to record the audio… this is now the only copy I have of this talk given to the St. Thomas More Society at the University of Houston Law Center.
